Selective Inhibitory Control in Middle Childhood

چکیده
The main aim of this study was to investigate the development selective inhibitory control in middle childhood, a critical period for maturation inhibition-related processes. To end, 64 children aged 6–7 and 56 10–11 performed stimulus-selective stop-signal task, which allowed us estimate not only efficiency response inhibition (the reaction time or SSRT), but also strategy adopted by participants achieve task demands. We found that adoption non-selective (global) characterized stopping indiscriminately all stimuli decreased older children, so most them were able interrupt their ongoing responses selectively at end childhood. Moreover, compared younger more efficient ability cancel an initiated (indexed shorter regardless they used. Additionally, we improvements other forms impulsivity, such as premature responding (waiting impulsivity), attentional-related processes, intra-individual variability distractibility. present results suggest childhood represents milestone crucial aspects control, including stopping.

Inhibitory control in childhood stuttering.
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to investigate whether previously reported parental questionnaire-based differences in inhibitory control (IC; Eggers, De Nil, & Van den Bergh, 2010) would be supported by direct measurement of IC using a computer task. METHOD Participants were 30 children who stutter (CWS; mean age=7;05 years) and 30 children who not stutter (CWNS; mean age=7;05 years). ...
متن کاملDo Children with Better Inhibitory Control Donate More? Differentiating between Early and Middle Childhood and Cool and Hot Inhibitory Control
Inhibitory control may play an important part in prosocial behavior, such as donating behavior. However, it is not clear at what developmental stage inhibitory control becomes associated with donating behavior and which aspects of inhibitory control are related to donating behavior during development in early to middle childhood. The present study aimed to clarify these issues with two experime...
متن کاملInhibitory control and moral emotions: relations to reparation in early and middle childhood.
This study examined links between inhibitory control, moral emotions (sympathy and guilt), and reparative behavior in an ethnically diverse sample of 4- and 8-year-olds (N = 162). Caregivers reported their children's reparative behavior, inhibitory control, and moral emotions through a questionnaire, and children reported their guilt feelings in response to a series of vignettes depicting moral...
متن کاملPredictors of Longitudinal Growth in Inhibitory Control in Early Childhood.
In the current study, we examined latent growth in 731 young children's inhibitory control from ages 2 to 4, and whether demographic characteristics or parenting behaviors were related to initial levels and growth in inhibitory control. As part of an ongoing longitudinal evaluation of the Family Check-Up (FCU), children's inhibitory control was assessed yearly at ages 2, 3, and 4. Inhibitory co...
متن کاملImpulsivity and Inhibitory Control in Normal Development and Childhood Psychopathology
Two experiments investigated the development and pathology of inhibitory control in children. Inhibitory control was investigated with the stop-signal paradigm, which is based on a formal theory of inhibition and directly measures the mechanism of inhibition. The ability to inhibit developed little after Grade 2, but subjects with attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity (ADDH) showed defi...
